Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas: emergency shelter, crisis line, youth programs, transition program, community education, support group facilitation, administration, development/fundraising, facilities maintenance and donation coordination, and on our Board of Directors.
We ask volunteers to commit to six months to one year of volunteering after the completion of training. Board Members Wanted!
Do you want to be part of an imperative feminist organization dedicated to creating a world free from domestic and sexual violence?
Bradley-Angle House, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization) (www.bradleyangle.org), is looking for committed, intelligent, energetic folks to join our Board of Directors in Portland, Oregon.
About us: Our mission is to offer survivors of domestic and sexual violence options for safety, self-empowerment, healing and hope, while collaborating with our communities to create social change. We envision a world free of domestic violence where all people are treated with dignity and respect.
About the Board: The Board of Directors plays a crucial role in fundraising, strategic planning, providing financial
oversight, and providing assistance with activities ranging from event planning to organizational development. The Board meets on the last Wednesday of every month, with committee participation and e-mail/phone communication between meetings. The Board has no role in daily operations of the organization.
About who is needed: We’re interested in drawing people from diverse backgrounds who share a commitment to our mission. Experience and expertise in the following are a plus: finance/accounting, human resources, fundraising, the law (particularly nonprofit and/or intellectual property law), marketing, public relations, event planning, volunteer management, or nonprofit management. While specific skill sets clearly matter, what’s just as important—and maybe even more important—is bringing a high level of commitment, enthusiasm, and energy to the cause.
Board responsibilities include:
- Participation in long-term strategic planning
- Review and approval of the organization’s annual budget
- Attendance at monthly board meetings
- Participation in the fundraising committee and one additional committee (committees cover topics such as fundraising, board recruitment, grant writing, events, and others as needed; committee members choose their own meeting methods and schedules as needed)
- Informed review of financial statements (training provided as needed)
- Making a personally significant financial contribution, and committing to raise a minimum of $250 annually with the help of the development staff at Bradley-Angle House
- Reaching out to your networks for fundraising and spreading the word about events
- Making fundraising asks and attend meetings with major donors
- Attending all Bradley-Angle House events in your area
- Assisting staff with advice and concrete projects as needed
Other things you may want to know:
- Board duties require a significant commitment of time and energy; in addition to meeting attendance, boardmembers are expected to take on specific deadline-driven tasks.
- Bradley-Angle House board terms are two years, with the option to renew for one additional term.
- We’re fun: we like you, and we think you’ll like us too.
