Bradley Angle’s Response to ICE Violence
We have seen this before. How violence is a smoke screen for power and control. The ways the truth gets twisted and used as a justification. The fear and terror we feel for the victims. Environments rife with rage and anger, and excuses made for behavior and harm.
What is happening in Minnesota and across our country is violence in its most pure form. And the similarities between ICE’s state-sanctioned violence and the violence people experience in their homes cannot be ignored.
Power. Control. Manipulation. Isolation. These are the methods used by abusers in both private and public. Ripping people off the street, away from their families, and out of their homes is violence. Denying people their constitutional rights to live and exist is violence. Murdering protestors in the street is violence.
To demand safety in our streets is to demand safety in our homes. Our struggles are intertwined, and environments that justify societal violence have been proven to increase intimate violence.
And yet, we honor the love and the strength of communities across Minnesota as they engage in mutual aid, powerful protest, and community care. We honor their love, their strength, and their dedication to keeping each other safe.
We are here for immigrant families, Black/African American families, LGBTQ2SIA+ families, families with disabled individuals, families protesting in the street, families having important conversations with their neighbors, and families struggling to find hope and love.
We join in heart, and in spirit, with those battling back against the waves of abuse and violence. And we call on leaders, legislators, those with wealth and power, and anyone with a voice to shout your love and care as loudly as possible. Survivors and victims need to know they are not alone.
